5 Things Vet Med can Learn From Taylor Swift
Nov 07, 2025
You know that feeling when a Taylor Swift lyric hits just a little too close to home? That was me, sitting in a dark theater during the TLOSG release party, covered in goosebumps and glitter, realizing Taylor has mastered something that veterinary medicine desperately needs.
✨Reinvention. Emotional intelligence. Leadership with heart.✨
In our latest episode of The Evolved Vets Podcast, I break down five lessons from Taylor Swift that can help you evolve in your own lives and careers, from burnout to breakthrough, from force to flow, from self-abandonment to self-devotion.
Honestly, you have a lot to learn from our girl, Tay.

The Eras of an Evolved Vet
Lesson 1: Reinvention is resilience.
Taylor’s career has had more plot twists than a season of Grey’s Anatomy, yet she never clings to who she was. She evolves. In vet med, you go through eras too: student, new grad, leader, owner. But somewhere along the way, you forget you’re allowed to evolve. Every time you pivot, every time you begin again, you’re not starting over, you’re showing up leveled up. And that is a GOOD thing!
“I wanna be defined by the things I love, not the things I hate.” - Taylor Swift
Lesson 2: Own your narrative.
When Taylor re-recorded her masters, she reclaimed her story. In veterinary medicine, it’s easy to let others define your worth or success, until you decide to take back the pen. Research from the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology shows that professionals who reframe their career story around autonomy have 40% higher job satisfaction. You might be in your “Reputation Era” where you finally say no to every weekend shift. Or your “Lover Era” where you might be falling back in love with your calling. Either way, it’s your story now. You get to tell it from a hero's perspective.
Lesson 3: Turn pain into purpose.
Taylor takes heartbreak and turns it into Grammy-winning art. You do this too! Taking on loss and compassion fatigue and somehow turning it into healing. According to Dr. Richard Tedeschi’s research on post-traumatic growth, adversity can expand empathy, deepen meaning, and create transformation. It all comes down to how you handle the experience. Pain doesn’t make you weak. It makes you wise.
Lesson 4: Authenticity is leadership.
For years, I thought leadership meant having it all together. But when I finally told my team, “Hey y’all, I’m struggling too,” they didn’t lose respect, they leaned in. That’s emotional intelligence in action. Gallup research shows that leaders who express vulnerability and empathy create 21% higher team engagement. People don’t need perfect. They need real. Taylor shows you how in her behind-the-scenes clips where she shares why she wrote each song, making mistakes on set, and cheering her team on.
Lesson 5: Celebrate your eras.
Taylor honors every version of herself. The heartbreak, ambition, burnout, rebirth. You get to do the same. Your Hustle Era taught you grit. Your Burnout Era taught you boundaries. Your Comeback Era taught you self-worth. And now? You’re stepping into your Aligned Era, where you lead, love, and live from flow, not force.
